"Hellscrack"
were formed in 1988 and played their first gig at the legendary
"Gibus" in Paris. The trio featured Gambit on double bass
and vocals, Xoumoul on guitar and Shuman on drums and vocals. |
| The
original line up lasted for only one year, playing live a dozen
times , at festivals and so-called psychobilly nights in Paris (at
the New Moon, the Gibus and the New Morning), Dijon, Troyes, Romans
and Belgium, alongside the psycho trend setters of the day such
as "Batmobile", "Meteors", "Klingonz"... |
 |
 |
Shortly
afterwards the trio was absorbed by the "French Lovers,"
until
Gambit threw his lot in with Manu Chao's clan and the other two
decided to reform "Hellscrack". |
| They
were joined one year later by Kalou on bass. |
 |
 |
The
band subsequently changed musical direction, moving away from psychobilly
to concentrate on a more straight forward rock n'roll repertoire,
nonetheless as nasty as before, sometimes mixed with punk rock,
hardcore and even metal. |
Numerous
gigs throughout France followed, entertaining customers and
audiences in cafes and festivals alike, as well as in clubs, sharing
the stage with such billtoppers as "Fleshtones", "Inmates"... |
 |
 |
After
some more time spent gigging at festivals or opening the show for
such luminaries as "Alvin Lee", "Jason and the Scorchers",
"Pogues" or "Guanabatz" their style became much
heavier. |
When
Laurent (ex. "Squealer" and "Disciples" (L.A.)
) returned to Nantes
after seven years in the States, he mucked in on second guitar,
giving
the band an australian rock'n roll style with his machine gun right
hand
and the heat of his riffs. |
 |
 |
For
two years they kept gigging for fun and built their own recording
studio in order to rehearse and flesh out new songs in a powerfull
rythmic rock n'roll style. |
| The
result speaks for itself : "Flesh
& Steel"
!!! |
 |
 |
...and
here they are on the road beside "Nashville Pussy", "Sonny
Vincent", "Rose Tattoo", "Super Suckers",
"Dr Feelgood" ... Leaded by the particular throat singing
of the drumer and the power of a hundred megatons bomb !!! |
